The passion for music with Cody started at a very early age. As a child, Cody would sing along with classic rock songs on the radio in the backseat of his parents’ vehicles. Around the age of 13, Cody’s father bought him his first guitar. Being influenced by albums such as Nirvana’s “Nevermind” and Metallica’s “Black Album”, Cody began learning skills and techniques that would lead to him playing the guitar on a regular basis. Shortly after, Cody and his brother Casey, who had been playing the drums for a couple of years at this point, began playing writing and playing music together. 

Over the next several years, Cody and Casey would play in several local bands together in and around Eastern North Carolina where they would earn a reputation in the local scene of being energetic and dynamic while on stage together. After a brief exit from the music scene, Cody reconnected with Casey in which lead to the birth of To Begin Anew.

Cody’s biggest musical inspirations are bands such as Metallica, Nirvana, Green Day, Alter Bridge, Shinedown and many other bands from the Grunge, Post-Grunge, Hard Rock, and Metal genres. 

Cody has always used music as a healthy outlet. To Cody, writing music is the best way to express his self. Writing music and lyrics is the purest form of expression in Cody’s opinion. Cody enjoys writing lyrics and songs that emphasize an emotion or a particular moment in time.
